The Viking Proposition
"The grey oceans said no,
And the towering waves fell day and night.
Your brave knights said no,
Axe toppled from horse with swords.
Your fair city said no,
Gates split under weight of the ram.
Your tall citadel said no,
Defenders falling from scaled walls.
Your father and brothers said no,
Their bodies carpeting the steps of this tower.
Fiercely howled your two faithful hounds,
Dying sword bit on this stoop.
Now your answer maiden,
Tell me no…"
"Oh Viking,
Hear a Saxon Queen's answer:
Open to any strong man,
You will ever guard my broken gate.
When entering my holy city,
For you the dry ashes of this visit.
My friends will be your enemies.
Our son will be your death.
I say yes…
